Summer Resources

In case of emergencies and important contact information

Our summer office hours are 8:30–5:30 EDT Monday through Friday (though we are often in the office earlier and later than this). However, someone is always on call for after-hours emergencies. Please refer to the “Important Contact Information” in your CampInTouch account and parent manual for our after-hours emergencies phone number and our regional directors’ direct phone numbers. Please use this number for extremely time-sensitive situations, such as canceled flights or family emergencies, and please use discretion when calling this line. If your student’s trip begins or ends on a weekend, the office is open and happy to assist with travel.

Trip blogs

Each Adventure Treks trip has a unique blog where we post photos and updates about that specific trip. In May, we will begin to post information, including instructor biographies (although instructors are always subject to change). During the trip, we will post updates with photos.

Due to the wilderness nature of our trips, there are limitations regarding the frequency of the updates and the number and quality of photographs. When groups are engaged in multi-day activities, such as backpacking, trip updates are not available. There is often no cell service at various trip locations, which impedes the information we are able to receive. Our goal is to regularly update parents about trip highlights. Expect an update once per week from your student’s trip, though we strive to provide updates as often as possible.

Contact from your student on the trip

You will receive two to three phone calls from your student during the trip. Unfortunately, we can’t predict exactly when those calls will happen. Often, plans and logistics change without notice. However, we try to make sure your student leaves a message, and, if possible, give him or her an opportunity to call back later.

When parents miss their student’s phone call, they often call the Adventure Treks office. Please know that the office is often not able to reach the instructors or your student. We understand this can be frustrating, but phone calls are typically made when the group passes through cell phone service. We will do our best to make sure you connect with your student at the next possible time that fits in our busy schedule.

Satellite phones and emergencies in the field

Adventure Treks has never experienced a major accident on any trip. However, in the event of an emergency that happens out of cell phone service, each of our groups carries a satellite phone. This way, they are able to reach our regional directors with updates.

Communication with parents during any illness or injury is of the utmost importance. In the event that your student gets sick at Adventure Treks, we will treat your son or daughter as you would. We will make them as comfortable as possible, and, if needed, arrange a doctor’s visit and pick up prescription medications.

If your student is injured while at Adventure Treks, we will let you know as soon as possible and keep you informed at every step along the way. Again, our goal is to provide the same level of care that you would as parents, and to have you be involved in the decisions as they are made. In the rare event that your student cannot continue on the trip, the instructors and office staff will help facilitate getting them back home as smoothly as possible.
